$15 will buy you a boxed lunch and the choice of two post-ONE Conference field trips as detailed below. Pick up your lunch at the registration sign-in table at the conclusion of the conference at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 23. Directions will be provided with your lunch for each site. The Noble Hill Landfill Renewable Energy Center began delivering electricity to customers of City Utilities (CU) of Springfield in May 2006. Methane gas produced by the City of Springfield's landfill is harnessed at the generator, providing 3.2 megawatts of electricity to CU customers. The joint project uses a previously discarded byproduct to produce energy for the community. CU has reserved a bus for a total of 28 people, first come, first served, to travel to the landfill north of Springfield to get a close-up look at how methane gas is generating electicity. www.cityutilities.net/community/renewable.htm The Watershed Committee of the Ozarks is raising funds for a $7.5 million “green” Watershed Center at Valley Water Mill. The collaborative project will include a green roof, water quality laboratories, plant-based water recycling system, teacher resource center and various offices and meeting spaces. The center will utilize rainwater harvesting, daylighting and solar strategies and wastewater recycling. Our short tour with Loring Bullard, director, will visit a lakeside learning station and wetland learning station, as well as other points of interest on the 100-acre property.
